Kavery Hospital doctors operated the malfunctioning heart valve of a 76-year-old farmer!

Chennai: 

Kauvery Hospital, a leading name in advanced medical care, has achieved yet another milestone by performing a groundbreaking dual procedure on a 76-year-old patient from Mayiladudurai, Tamil Nadu. A farmer and teacher by profession, he exemplified the spirit of resilience, undergoing an extraordinary medical journey to regain his mobility and independence.

The patient, who had previously undergone mitral valve replacement with Bioprosthetic valve  in 2013, and a recent echo confirmed degeneration of that prosthesis with severe narrowing and leak along with very high right heart pressure (severe pulmonary hypertension)  A second operation to replace this will be prohibitively higher risk, hence he was planned to have elective non-surgical Transcatheter Mitral ViV replacement in end of November,  however,  his journey took an unexpected turn when he suffered a fall at home, leading to a left leg fracture neck of femur (broken hip bone).

The urgency of his hip condition and the critical nature of his heart ailment presented a daunting challenge. It was a high risk procedure that required a multidisciplinary approach and the only safer way to treat him is to do both procedures under the same general anaesthesia, first the Transcatheter Mitral ViV followed by Left Total Hip Replacement, in an Hybrid Cath Lab Operating Room. This is available in very few centres in India, and given the availability of the Hybrid Cath Lab OR, Cardiac and Orthopedic expertise, this patient underwent Hybrid procedure safely and was mobilized within 36 hours.

“The patient underwent a transcatheter mitral valve-in-valve procedure through groin access, a minimally invasive technique that immediately reduced his right-side pressure from 130 to 60 and a normally functioning mitral valve. With his heart condition stabilized, the orthopedic team seamlessly proceeded with the hip replacement surgery on the same operating table at the Hybrid Operating Room,” said Dr R Anantharaman , Senior Interventional Cardiologist Kauvery Hospital Chennai.

The procedures were a resounding success. The patient was extubated from the ventilator and mobilized within 36 hours, defying all odds. His swift recovery enabled him to return to his village and resume his active lifestyle.

“Advances in surgical techniques have made the procedure safer, even for patients with multiple health conditions. This patient was given dual mobility hip replacement thus giving higher chances of life expectancy to hip and reducing any chances of complications in future. As a farmer he wanted to be ready before harvest season and needed better mobility, which could only be achieved through the dual mobility procedure.” said Dr Mukunth K , Senior Consultant Orthopaedics, Kauvery Hospital Alwarpet.

With Tamil Nadu’s cyber financial fraud losses surpassing an estimated ₹1,100 crore between January and September 2024, there is a greater need than ever before to build resilient tech infrastructure by leveraging AI, stated Thiru Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister of IT and Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu, at AVAR 2024, the 27^th edition of AVAR’s global cyber security conferences, which took place in the city today. Addressing a large gathering of cyber security experts and global tech leaders, Thiru. Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan further emphasized the need for collaborative governance by promoting partnerships between the Public Sector, Private Enterprise, and International Allies, during his inaugural address at the conference.

The 27^th edition of AVAR’s summits, themed The Battle for Cyber Supremacy, is set to take place today and tomorrow with over 400 participants including CXOs, regulators, and law enforcement officials along with renowned speakers representing industry leaders such as Kaspersky, Google, and Zoho, participating in 40+ engaging sessions. In Tamil Nadu, cyber financial fraud losses surpassed ₹1,100 crore between January and September 2024. These figures serve as a wake-up call. To address these challenges, Tamil Nadu launched its Cybersecurity Policy 2.0 recently, focusing on building resilient infrastructure by leveraging AI to reduce the average breach cost to over $2 million; capacity-building by establishing a cyber security training center; and collaborative governance with public-private partnerships. With the state spearheading projects such as Blockchain Backbone – Nambikkai Inaiyam aimed at ensuring that technology empowers every citizen without compromising their security, Tamil Nadu is committed to prioritizing digital safety while fostering a conducive environment for innovation.”

Highlighting the growing importance of cyber security, Mr. Kesavardhanan J, CEO of AVAR and Founder & CEO of K7 Computing, said, “This year’s theme, The Battle for Cyber Supremacy, was selected owing to the growing recognition of cyberspace as the 5^th domain of warfare that has evolved to become a critical arena in global conflict, and includes national security, policy, and strategy. With the recently launched Cybersecurity Policy 2.0, we are building stronger teams and training developers to handle cyber security more effectively. Scammers, meanwhile, use psychologically compelling tactics that are difficult to resist once engaged, making it crucial to disconnect at the first sign of suspicion. At this same time, addressing issues like fragmented access controls and password management remains critical, as does creating awareness about sophisticated scams. Addressing these challenges through awareness, streamlined systems, and consistent frameworks is vital to enhancing cyber security and governance, and the Tamil Nadu government is working towards it."AVAR 2024 will also celebrate excellence in Indian cyber security with the prestigious CISO Awards, recognizing trailblazing contributions across five categories spanning the enterprise spectrum. Apollo Cancer Centre Leads the Way with India’s First LungLife Screening Program to Combat Lung Cancer

Apollo Cancer Centres (ACCs), a leader in cutting-edge cancer care, has launched India’s first LungLife Screening Program for early detection of lung cancer. This ground-breaking initiative aims to combat lung cancer, which accounts for 5.9% of all cancers and 8.1% of cancer-related deaths in India. Early detection aids in better treatment outcome and enhances the survival rate. (LINK) GLOBOCAN 2020 estimates of cancer incidence and mortality produced by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) show as lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death, with an estimated 1.8 million deaths (18%) in 2020.  The LungLife Screening Program aims at individuals who have the highest risk for lung cancer such as: (i) people between the age group of 50 and 80 years, (ii) asymptomatic (no signs or symptoms of lung cancer), (iii) individuals with a significant history of smoking and (iv) people with family history of lung cancers.

Early screening through low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) can aid in early detection and significantly improve survival rates. Yet approximately 80% of high risk individuals have never discussed screening with their healthcare providers. It is vital to enhance communication and awareness around lung cancer screening to enable early diagnosis and save lives, especially among high-risk population.

Sherif Master Launches India’s First Dance OTT Platform, JOOPOP HOME

Celebrated choreographer Sherif Master marked a significant milestone today with the launch of Jhope HOME, India’s first-ever OTT platform dedicated to dance. The app, unveiled at a vibrant event at Nexus Vijaya Mall, Vadapalani, promises to revolutionize how dance enthusiasts, performers, and creators engage with the art form.  

The event was graced by Sherif’s close friends and collaborators, including acclaimed filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, director Rajkumar Periyasamy, and actor Bobby Simha. Their presence highlighted the deep personal and professional bonds Sherif has nurtured over the years, reflecting his inspiring journey in the world of dance.  

Sherif Master’s path to success is a testament to dedication and perseverance. He began his career in 2003, teaching at his own dance school, Sherif Dance Company (SDC), where he honed his craft and trained aspiring dancers. It is to be Noted that Reputed Actress Sai Pallavi trained from Sherif dance company and went on to become a great dancer on-screen..Later in 2009, Sherif achieved national fame as the title winner of Ungalil Yaaru Adutha Prabhu Deva, a dance competition directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy. This life-changing victory not only brought him recognition but also opened the doors to his career as a film choreographer.  

Since then, Sherif has choreographed over 250 songs across Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada films, carving a unique niche for himself in the industry. His collaborations with Rajkumar and Karthik Subbaraj have been particularly notable. Sherif choreographed the hit songs in Rajkumar’s recent blockbuster Amaran, and with Karthik, he has worked on every film from Iraivi to the upcoming Suriya 44, showcasing his creative genius and versatility.  

The stars present at the event shared an intriguing insight into Sherif’s unwavering commitment to his vision. Karthik Subbaraj, Rajkumar Periyasamy, and Bobby Simha revealed that Sherif had been talking about the idea for JOOPOP HOME for nearly 6-7 years.
