நடிகர் ஜீவாவின் 'டெஃப் ஃப்ராக்ஸ்' மியூசிக் லேபிள் வெளியீடு!

இந்திய சினிமாவில் விமர்சன ரீதியாகவும் வணிக ரீதியாகவும் வெற்றிப்படங்களை வழங்கி வரும் நடிகர் ஜீவா, திரையுலகில் இன்று  21 வருடங்களை நிறைவு செய்கிறார். வெற்றிகரமாக தனது திரைப் பயணத்தை தொடங்கிய அவர், அடுத்த கட்டமாக இசை தயாரிப்பில் இறங்கியுள்ளார்.

நடிகர் ப்ருத்வி பாண்டியராஜன் பேசும் போது, 

இப்படி ஒரு வெற்றிக்காகத்தான் நான் 18 ஆண்டுகளாக காத்துக் கொண்டு  இருந்தேன்… எல்லோரும் என்னை பாண்டியராஜனின் பையன்  என்று சொல்லும் போது ஆரம்பத்தில் சந்தோசமாக  இருந்தது. பின்னர் எனக்கென்று ஒரு அடையாளம் இல்லையே என்று கவலைப்பட்டேன்… ஆனால் இன்று “ப்ளூ ஸ்டார்” படத்தைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு, எல்லோரும் என்னை என் பெயரைக் கூட சொல்லிக் கூப்பிடாமல் என் கதாபாத்திரத்தின் பெயரான “சாம், சாம்” என்று சொல்லிக் கூப்பிடும் போது மிகவும் சந்தோசமாகவும் பெருமையாகவும் இருந்தது. இந்த வெற்றியை எனக்குக்  கொடுத்த இயக்குநர் ஜெயக்குமாருக்கும் என் மீது நம்பிக்கை வைத்த தயாரிப்பாளர் இயக்குநர் பா.ரஞ்சித் அவர்களுக்கும் லெமன் லீஃப் புரொடெக்ஷன்ஸ் கணேஷமூர்த்தி மற்றும் சவுந்தர்யா அவர்களுக்கும் நன்றிகள். 

அசோக்செல்வன் ஒரு தன்னலம் அற்ற கதாநாயகன். தான் மட்டும் ஸ்கோர் செய்தால் போதும் என்று நினைக்காமல் தன்னோடு சேர்ந்து நடிப்பவர்களும் முன்னேற வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணம் கொண்ட நடிகர் எனக்குத் தெரிந்து அசோக் மட்டும் தான். ஆரம்பத்தில் இருந்தே என்னிடம், “இப்படம் கண்டிப்பாக உனக்கு பெரிய திருப்புமுனையாக இருக்கும், அவசரப்படாமல் பொறுமையாக இரு..” என்று கூறினான் . அவனுக்கு மீண்டும் நன்றி. இப்படத்தில் நான் இன்று இருக்கிறேன் என்றால், அதற்கு காரணம் என் நண்பன் சாந்தனு தான்.  அவன் தான் இப்படத்தின் ஆடிஸன் போய்க் கொண்டிருப்பதை என்னிடம் தெரிவித்தான். அவனுக்கும் என் மனமார்ந்த நன்றிகள். இப்படத்தை வெற்றிப்படமாக்கிய மக்கள், பத்திரிக்கை, ஊடக மற்றும் மீடியா நண்பர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் நன்றிகள். “ என்று பேசினார். 

நடிகர் சாந்தனு பேசும் போது, 

இந்த வெற்றிக்காக நான் 15 ஆண்டுகளாக காத்துக்  கொண்டிருந்தேன். இன்னும் கூட என்னால் இதை நம்பமுடியவில்லை. இப்படி ஒரு நல்ல விசயம் என் வாழ்வில் நடக்கிறதா..?? என்னால் நம்பமுடியவில்லை என்று என் மனைவியிடம் நேற்று கூட பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தேன்… சக்சஸ் மீட்டில் சந்திப்போம்  என்று பலமுறை பத்திரிக்கையாளர் சந்திப்பில் பேசி இருக்கிறோம். ஆனால் சக்சஸ் மீட் என்பது இதுதான் என்  வாழ்வில் முதல்முறை. 

ப்ருத்வி பேசிய அனைத்தும் எனக்கும் பொருந்தும். இப்படத்தின் வெற்றி எப்படிப்பட்ட படத்தை தேர்வு செய்து நடிக்க வேண்டும் என்பதை எனக்குக் கற்றுக் கொடுத்தது.  மேலும் என் அப்பா அம்மாவை சந்தோசப்படுத்திப் பார்க்கும் வாய்ப்பை எனக்கு இந்த ப்ளூ ஸ்டார் கொடுத்திருக்கிறது. 

ராஜேஷ் என்னும் இந்த கதாபாத்திரம் இன்று இந்த அளவிற்கு பேசப்படுகிறது என்றால் அதற்கு முழு முதற் காரணம் வசனம் எழுதிய எழுத்தாளர் தமிழ் பிரபா மற்றும் இயக்குநர் ஜெயக்குமார் இருவரும் தான். அவர்களுக்கு பெரிய நன்றி.  மிகப்பெரிய வேலையை அவர்கள் இருவரும் செய்து முடித்துவிட்டார்கள். அதைப் பேசி நடித்ததால் தான் இன்று அக்கதாபாத்திரம் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. எழுத்தாளர் ஒரு படத்திற்கு எவ்வளவு முக்கியம் என்பதை நான் முதலில் என் அப்பாவிடம் இருந்து கற்றுக் கொண்டேன்.. இப்பொழுது ப்ளூ ஸ்டார் படத்தின் மூலம் அது மீண்டும் நிருபனமாகி இருக்கிறது. 

என் அப்பா, எத்தனையோ நடிகர்களுக்கு நான் மிகப்பெரிய வெற்றியைப் பெற்றுக்  கொடுத்திருக்கிறேன்… ஆனால் என் மகனுக்கு என்னால் அப்படி ஒரு வெற்றியைக்  கொடுக்க முடியவில்லையே என்று கண்கலங்கி இருக்கிறார்.  ப்ளூ ஸ்டார் படத்தின் வெற்றி அந்தக் கண்ணீரைத் துடைத்திருக்கிறது. அதற்காகவும் இப்படக்குழுவினருக்கு நன்றி சொல்லிக் கொள்கிறேன்.

இந்த வெற்றிக்காக வாழ்த்து தெரிவித்து என் அப்பா இயக்குநர் கே.பாக்யராஜ் ஒரு கடிதம் எழுதியிருக்கிறார். அதை இங்கு வாசிக்க விரும்புகிறேன் என்று கூறி சாந்தனு அக்கடிதத்தை வாசித்தார்.  அதில் ”கே.பாக்யராஜ் கிரிக்கெட் வீரராக ஆக வேண்டும் என்று எண்ணிய தன் மகன் சாந்தனுவை, முதன்முறையாக நடிக்க வைத்து நடிப்புக்குள் கொண்டு வந்த கணத்தை நினைவு கூர்ந்திருந்ததோடு, “ப்ளூ  ஸ்டார்” படத்தில் அதே கிரிக்கெட் விளையாடும் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்ததன் மூலம் வெற்றியை பதிவு செய்திருக்கும் சாந்தனுக்கும் , இந்த வெற்றியை அவருக்குக் கொடுத்த இயக்குநர் ஜெயக்குமார், தயாரிப்பாளர் பா.ரஞ்சித், மற்றும் சாந்தனுவோடு நடித்த சக கலைஞர்கள் மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்பக்கலைஞர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் நன்றிகளைக் கூறி இருந்தார்.  

இயக்குநர் பா.ரஞ்சித் அவர்கள் பேசும் போது,

எல்லோருக்கும் வணக்கம். ரொம்ப சந்தோஷம். ப்ளூ ஸ்டார் படத்தை வெற்றிப்படமாக அங்கீகரித்த மக்களுக்கு நான் முதலில் நன்றி சொல்லிக் கொள்கிறேன்… வசூல் வர்த்தக ரீதியை தாண்டி, மக்கள் மனதில் ஒரு படம் எந்த அளவிற்கு தங்குகிறது, அவர்கள் அதை எப்படி வரவேற்கிறார்கள், ஏற்றுக் கொள்கிறார்கள் என்பது மிக முக்கியம் என்று நான் நினைக்கிறேன். படத்தில் இருக்கும் கதாபாத்திரங்களை மக்கள் அணுகும் விதம், அதில் இருக்கும் அரசியலை அவர்கள் புரிந்து கொள்ளும்விதம், இப்படத்தை கொண்டாடும் விதம் சந்தோஷம் அளிக்கிறது. 

நீண்ட நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு மக்கள் ஒரு படத்தில் இருக்கும் பல கதாபாத்திரங்களை கொண்டாடி ஏற்றுக் கொள்வது ப்ளூ ஸ்டார் படத்திற்கு நடந்திருக்கிறது.  ஒரு படத்தை வெற்றிப்படம் என்று அதைத் தயாரித்த தயாரிப்பாளர்கள், அப்படத்தோடு தொடர்புடையவர்கள் கூறலாம். ஆனால் மக்கள் அதைக் கூறுவது ரொம்ப ரொம்ப கடினம். அது ப்ளூ ஸ்டார் படத்திற்கு நடந்திருப்பது மகிழ்ச்சியாகவும், பெருமையாகவும் இருக்கிறது. ஜெயக்குமாருக்கும் என் வாழ்த்துக்களையும் நன்றிகளையும்  தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன். 

படம் ரீலிசாகி நான்கு நாட்களில் ஒரு பெரிய ஹீரோ அப்படத்தை இரண்டு முறைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு, போன் செய்து நாம் ஒரு படம் பண்ணலாம் என்று ஜெயக்குமாரிடம் பேசியிருக்கிறார். இது எனக்குக் கூட நடந்தது இல்லை.  ஜெயக்குமாருக்கு நடந்திருப்பது எனக்கு சந்தோசம். 

இப்படத்தினைத் தயாரிக்க முன்வந்த லெமன் லீஃப் புரொடெக்ஷன்ஸ்  கணேஷ மூர்த்தி மற்றும் செளந்தரியாவிற்கு ரொம்ப ரொம்ப நன்றி.  ஏனென்றால் நான் அடிக்கடி சொல்வேன். நம்மை நம்புபவர்கள் தான் நம்மிடம் வருவார்கள்.  ஏனென்றால் நாம் பேசும் அரசியல் அப்படி. என்னைப் பார்ப்பவர்கள் என்னை வெறும் ரஞ்சித் ஆகப் பார்க்கமாட்டார்கள். நான் பேசும் அரசியலோடு தான் என்னைப் பார்ப்பார்கள். என்னை Extremist ஆகப் பார்ப்பார்கள்.  அடையாள அரசியல் செய்வதாகக் கூறுவார்கள். அவரது சாதியைச் சேர்ந்த ஆட்களுடன் தான் ரஞ்சித் வேலை செய்வார் என்றெல்லாம் என்னைக் குறித்துப் பல கதைகள் பேசப்பட்டு வருகிறது.  இதையெல்லாம் நான் நம்புவது இல்லை. ஆனால் நான் எனக்கு என்னப் பிடித்திருக்கிறதோ, எனக்கு என்ன தேவையோ அதைத்தான் நான் செய்து கொண்டிருக்கிறேன். என்னுடைய உழைப்பையும், நான் பேசும் அரசியலையும் மற்ற எல்லோரையும் விட நான் முழுமையாக நம்புகிறேன்.  நான் பேசும் அரசியல் தான் நான்..

இந்த அரசியலும் நான் நம்புகிறத் தத்துவமும் என்னை சரியாக வழிநடத்தும் என்று நம்புகிறேன்.. யாரைத் தேடியும் நான் சென்றதே இல்லை.  நான் பேசுகின்ற அரசியல் நிறைய பேரை என்னிடம் அழைத்து வந்திருக்கிறது. என்னையும் நான் பேசும் அரசியலையும் நம்புகிற ஒருவர் மட்டும் தான் என்னுடன் சேர்ந்து பணியாற்ற முடியும்…  பிற ஆட்கள் என்னுடன் வேலை செய்ய முடியாது. ஏனென்றால் நான் வெளிப்படையாக இருக்கிறேன். அதே வெளிப்படைத்தன்மையுடன் என் அரசியலைப் புரிந்து கொண்டு என்னுடன் பயணிப்பவர்கள் தான் இந்த மேடையில் இருப்பவர்கள்.  இவர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் என் நன்றிகள். தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் கணேஷ மூர்த்தி சவுந்தர்யா இருவரும் வேறொரு நிலப்பரப்பில் இருந்து வேறொரு கலாச்சாரம் மற்றும் பழக்கவழக்கங்களுடன் வந்தவர்கள். ஆனால் நாம் பேசும் அரசியலை அவர்கள் புரிந்து கொள்கிறார்கள். அது சரியாக இருக்கும் என்று நம்புகிறார்கள். அதுதான் முக்கியம் என்று நான் நினைக்கிறேன். அவர்கள் தயாரித்து வரும் பிற படங்களும் வெற்றிபெற வாழ்த்துக்களைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன். 

சக்திவேலன் ப்லிம்ஸ் பேக்டரியுடன் இணைந்து பணியாற்ற வேண்டும் என்று பல வருடங்களாக பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தோம். இப்படத்தைப் பார்க்காமலே  இப்படத்தில் சேர்ந்து பணியாற்றுவோம் என்று நம்பிக்கையுடன் வந்தார். அது எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்திருந்தது.  

சாந்தனு, ப்ருத்வி இருவரும் பேசியது மிகவும் உணர்வுபூர்வமாக இருந்தது. இந்த மேடை அவ்வளவு எளிதாக கிடைத்துவிடாது. நாம் பேசும் அரசியலுக்காக நான் எங்கிருந்து வருகிறோம் என்பதற்காக மக்கள் வெற்றியைக் கொடுத்துவிட மாட்டார்கள்.  நான் செய்யும் வேலையின் மதிப்பை அங்கீகரித்துதான் மக்கள் அந்த வெற்றியைக் கொடுப்பார்கள் என்று நம்புகிறேன்.  மக்கள், பத்திரிக்கை, ஊடகம் அனைவரும் இந்த வெற்றியைக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

சென்சாரில் இப்படத்திற்கு பிரச்சனை இருக்காது என்று நினைத்துக் கொண்டு இருந்தேன். ஆனால் இப்படம் வெளியாகக்கூடாது என்பது போன்ற கருத்து வெளியானது எனக்கு ஆச்சரியம் அளித்தது.  ஒருவர் மிகக் கடுமையாக படத்தை எதிர்த்தார் என்றார்கள். மூர்த்தி அண்ணனின் படம் இருப்பதை காரணமாக சொன்னார்கள். அவரை ரவுடி என்றார்கள்.  அவர் எங்களைப் படிக்க வைத்தவர்,  நிறைய பேர் எங்கள் ஊரில் படித்துக்  கொண்டிருப்பதற்கு அவர்தான் காரணம். அவர் பெரிய தலைவர், அவரை எப்படி நீங்கள் ரவுடி என்று சொல்லலாம் என்று கேட்டேன்..  பின்னர் ரிவைசிங் கமிட்டிக்கு திரும்பவும் அனுப்பினோம்…  சில கதாபாத்திரங்களின் பெயரையும், எதிர் கிரிக்கெட் அணியின் பெயரையும் மாற்றச் சொன்னார்கள்.  அதற்குப் பிறகுதான் சென்சார் கொடுத்தார்கள்.

ஒரு படம் ஒற்றுமையைப் பேசுகிறது. ஒன்றாக இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று கூறுகிறது. வேற்றுமைகளுக்கு எதிராக எல்லோரும் ஒன்று கூட வேண்டும் என்று சொல்லுகிறது..  இதை தடை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று சொல்லும் நபர்கள் சென்சாரில் இருக்கிறார்கள். இவர்களை மீறித்தான் இப்படம் இப்போது வெளியாகி இருக்கிறது..

Indel Money Limited Launches Public Issue of up to Rs. 200 crores of Secured, Redeemable Non-Convertible Debentures (NCDs)

Indel Money Limited, one of the fastest growing NBFC in the gold loan sector, announced the 4^th public issue of Secured NCDs of face value of Rs.1,000 each. The Issue opened on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 and will close on Monday, February 12, 2024 (with an option of early closure in case of early over subscription).

Tamil Nadu's Real Estate Outlook Report Unveiled at STATECON 2024 Organised by CREDAI Tamilnadu!

Thiru. S. Muthusamy, Honorable Minister for Housing & Urban Development, at the inaugural session of South India’s largest Real Estate Conclave – STATECON, organized by CREDAI Tamil Nadu. The theme of the two-day conference was Conservatism to Cosmopolitanism.

Lastly, commenting on the demand for self-certification to ease the approval process, the Minister put it back asking what about deviations. Would the industry take responsibility for the deviations? If the responses are favorable, it can be considered,” he concluded.

Thiru. P.K. Sekar Babu, Honourable Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments and CMDA in his speech said:

“The request for Single window clearance is on the cards. Between 2021-2023, 605 approvals were granted for NHRB when compared to 426 earlier. Also, layout approvals have grown from 197 to 305 and reclassification has increased by 300% based on plan approvals,”. 

“Overall, we witness major progress throughout the State but, we can do a lot more if we work together. The commitment of 60 days to process and approve will be truly possible only when we get all the papers and documents that are asked for from your side on time. So, to make things work, we need to work closely,” he added. 

A report by Frank Knight and CREDAI Tamil Nadu was released at the conference with the State Ministers receiving the copies along with other members of CREDAI. 

The report states, “In FY 23, Tamil Nadu, the second-largest economy in India, demonstrated a dynamic economic structure with the tertiary sector leading at 53%, followed by the secondary sector at 34%, and the primary sector at 13%. The state's economy, valued at USD 294 billion, showcased an impressive average annual growth of 11% from FY 9 to 2019. Foreign direct investments and private equity inflows reached USD 81 billion post the global investors' meet, affirming the state's appeal. Tamil Nadu's stock market engaged 4.7 million investors with USD 28 billion assets under management, predominantly in equity (59%),”.

“Notably, the construction sector, currently valued at USD 32 billion in FY 23, is projected to reach USD 208 billion by FY 47, reflecting a significant opportunity for real estate stakeholders. Furthermore, the manufacturing sector, constituting 19% of the state's economy, is expected to expand to USD 374 billion by FY 48, necessitating 2.25 lakh hectares of industrial land. To support this growth, enhancing capital expenditure to 5.7% of the GSDP is crucial. The state must undertake a cumulative capex exceeding USD 110 billion over the next 24 years to ensure robust infrastructure for sustained development. Key advisory measures include targeted retail policies, leveraging textile strengths, and strategic promotion of tourism. The report provides comprehensive insights for stakeholders to engage in further discussions and capitalize on the potential outlined,”.

Mr. R. Ilankovan, President, CREDAI TAMILNADU, in his speech appealed to the Hon’ble Ministers at the conference to regulate, reduce, and limit the number of approvals so that the industry can grow quicker and achieve the targeted numbers, particularly DTCP approvals. Also, DTCP should give a revised master plan as the current ones are all outdated,”. 

He further suggested that all approvals and payments could be made to DTCP instead of the industry dealing with multiple local authorities, this would lead to time efficiency as the delays in approvals result in a higher cost for the buyer eventually. 

“The recent global investors' meeting has proven to be a remarkable success, resulting in the signing of Rs. 6.36 lakh crore worth of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). This development marks a significant stride for Tamil Nadu as it sets ambitious goals to transform into a one-trillion-dollar economy,” said Mr. W.S. Habib, Chairman – STATECON 2024 in his welcome address.

“Tamil Nadu has been growing in all trends and is at the forefront in this transformation. Our state has been an icon of innovation and progress setting benchmarks for others to follow other states. A recent report states that commercial space absorption is 11 million square feet. This proves Tamil Nadu is ranked in the second or third highest absorption of space in India when compared to other states,” said Mr. Sridharan, Vice President, South Zone, CREDAI National. 

“Tamil Nadu is truly a cosmopolitan state, given our diverse dependencies on various sectors such as career development, agriculture, tourism, healthcare, transportation, and the intricate network of logistics and finance circuits at the state level. Our industrial landscape boasts considerable diversity, setting us apart from states like Bangalore and Hyderabad, where their focus is often singular,” Mr. Srinivas Ankipatti, Sr Director- Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Knight and Frank India. 

“I strongly encourage all members, ministers, and stakeholders to seize this forum as an opportunity to initiate a departure from conventional thinking. Let's embrace this positive momentum,” he added. 

Mr. M V R Murali Krishna, General Manager, State Bank of India , said:

“There is a huge growth potential for Chennai and Tamil Nadu as a whole, given the rich culture, industrialization, and excellent infrastructure. Housing growth serves as an indicator of regional economic development, contributing 7% to the country's GDP and is expected to touch 13% of the GDP by 2025,”

Age No Bar for Major Neuro Surgery - Octogenarian Speaks Again After Four Years!

Kauvery Hospital, Radial Road, performed a successful Microvascular Decompression (MVD) surgery, restoring speech in an 85-year-old patient after four years and relieving symptoms of facial pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia. This surgery stands as a testimony to the surgical excellence at the Institute of Brain and Spine and is yet another example of the advancements in surgery techniques and anaesthesia to ensure safe and fast recovery in an elderly patient.

Mr Veerasamy, 85 years old, was suffering from shock-like pains on the left side of the face for more than four years. The pain progressively increased in intensity and frequency, to the extent he was unable to talk, eat or even brush his teeth and shave. A normally outgoing personality, this made him depressed and changed him so much that he stopped talking, stopped going out and stopped interacting with everyone, including his family. Medications did not work and even some medical procedures he underwent gave him only temporary relief. A chance conversation between his son-in-law and Dr Krish Sridhar gave the family a glimmer of hope.

Mr Veerasamy consulted Dr Krish Sridhar, Senior Neurosurgeon and Group Mentor, Neurosciences, at Kauvery Hospital, Radial Road.

“On listening to the symptoms described by Mr Veerasamy, it was obvious that he needed surgery for his condition - trigeminal neuralgia. The only issue was, considering his age, whether he was medically fit to undergo the surgery,” said Dr Krish Sridhar.

Trigeminal neuralgia is a condition where the patient experiences excruciating pain on the face. It is typically caused by a blood vessel lying in close contact with the trigeminal nerve that transmits sensation from the face to the brain. Due of the constant pulsation of the vessel on the nerve, the latter gets irritated and any sensation is then perceived as pain. If medicines do not work, MVD surgery is the cure.

Dr Krish Sridhar, who has immense experience performing this surgery, said:

“MVD surgery is a low-risk surgery which does not destroy any normal structure of the brain. Through surgery, we simply move the offending (albeit normal) vessel away from the nerve.”

Mr Veerasamy underwent the surgery and on waking up from anaesthesia, he was completely free of facial pain. In his words: “I have got a rebirth - I can talk freely, I can eat normally and I can brush my teeth again!” His family is happy that they can hear him speak once again after nearly four years.

Age is not a contraindication for surgery, especially when the patient is suffering from severe pain. Considering the advancements in anaesthesia and modern surgical technologies available, if a patient is medically fit for anaesthesia, the MVD surgery is the best option for a long-term cure for trigeminal neuralgia.

Director Suseenthiran presents ‘Athma’ starring Narain in lead role!

Kadris Entertainment UAE producer Najeeb Kadri is currently working on a groundbreaking horror mystery thriller called 'Aatma', featuring actor Narain in the lead role. The recently unveiled first look of the film has received an overwhelming response from movie enthusiasts. Renowned filmmaker Susienthiran will be releasing the film across Tamil Nadu.

The entire film has been shot in the captivating landscapes of Dubai, making 'Athma' as the first-ever Tamil movie to be entirely filmed in this city. Minimally-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery at Dr Agarwals frees Senior Citizen from 10-Year Long Dependency on Antiglaucoma Eye Drops 

Chennai: 

A minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) performed at Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, Chennai freed a 63-year old glaucoma patient from his 10-year long daily dependency on antiglaucoma eye drops. The 10-minute MIGS surgery performed by the hospital’s competent surgical team significantly reduced the eye (intraocular) pressure, the root cause of glaucoma, thus making it unnecessary for the patient to use eyedrops every day to curb the progression of the condition. 

Glaucoma is the second most diagnosed eye disorder and the third leading cause of blindness. It affects 3 in 100 people. There are approximately 76 million people who have this condition worldwide. In India, about 11.9 million people aged 40 years and older live with it. Glaucoma is an irreversible and a progressive optic neuropathy. It occurs when the intraocular pressure increases as a result of either an increase in the inflow of fluids into the eye or a decrease in the outflow. The increased pressure damages optic nerves. MIGS can reduce the intraocular pressure by enhancing the outflow of fluids using several techniques, such as implanting micro stents to enhance the eye's drainage system.

In the case of this senior citizen, a resident of Chennai, the surgical team at Dr Agarwals placed two stents inside the eyes which improved the fluid outflow. The surgery achieved about 35% reduction in intraocular pressure. This reduction is enough for the patient to stop using eye drops. He will have to be on the follow up for periodic pressure monitoring and nerve testing alone. 

Talking about the benefits of MIGS, Dr. Ashvin Agarwal, Executive Director & Chief Clinical Officer of Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital said that MIGS is a new category of glaucoma surgery that has transformed the landscape of glaucoma management by providing a safer and less invasive alternative to trabeculectomy. It has been specifically developed with the goal of reducing the risk of complications associated with traditional glaucoma surgeries. With MIGS, there is a negligible disruption to normal anatomy through this microinvasive and sutureless approach. This gives the patient a faster healing time and rapid recovery. It provides a better 24 hour IOP control. There are many types of MIGS procedures and devices available in India, including Istent, Kahooks dual blade, BANG and GATT. “Thanks to MIGS, there has been a significant improvement in the quality of life of glaucoma patients. They can enjoy the freedom from eye drops - or a reduction in the number of medications. At Agarwals, we have an 80% success rate with close to 50% of the cases achieving over 40% intraocular pressure reduction.”

In her comments, Dr. S. Soundari, Regional Head - Clinical Services, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, said that glaucoma is a silent killer, as the progression of this condition isn’t noticed till the last stages. Usually, the patient comes into the hospital too late. No proper cure has been found for the disease till date. So the only treatment that we have is medical or surgical management. Although glaucoma is progressive, early intervention can usually prevent further vision loss or blindness. Glaucoma therapy includes different methods to lower the intraocular pressure, such as medications, laser, and surgery.  In the case of mild glaucoma, eye drops are recommended. In moderate to severe cases, surgery is inevitable.”

She added that the conventional surgery, known as trabeculectomy, creates a new drainage pathway. With this method, there is always a risk of over-filtration, which could result in too little intraocular pressure, and infection at the surgical site. In MIGS surgeons use the normal drainage mechanics of the eye to enhance fluid outflow.

Considering the life changing benefits of MIGS, Dr Agarwals is Launching an Annual Glaucoma Patient Summit, a first-of-its-kind event in the city in March this year to facilitate direct interactions between the hospital’s experts and the patients to raise awareness about glaucoma and its understanding.
