NATIONAL PULSE POLIO IMMUNISATION PROGRAMME IN RAILWAYS!
The National Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme was held in all the six Divisions of Southern Railway. A total of 17,397 children were given polio drops in all the six divisions of Chennai (10141) Salem (1165) Trichy (771) Madurai (2845) Palakkad (635) and Thiruvananthapuram (1352) and in Perambur area under the Headquarters Hospital of Perambur Railway Hospital, which accounted for 488 children being immunised. The Campaign was carried out in Divisional Hospitals, Extra Divisional Health Units, Railway Colonies and in Railway Stations across the zone. Mobile Units were also deployed in the campaign.
In the Southern Railway headquarters Hospital, the National pulse polio immunization campaign was held today, 31st January 2021. A team consisting of 35 members including doctors, staff nurses, Hospital attendants, housekeeping assistants, drivers and driver attendant where involved in this program.
Six booths were setup each consisting of a doctor, two staff nurses, one hospital attendant, one housekeeping assistant. One mobile booth was available to cover the floating population and the slum areas around the railway colony. Dr V Nirmala Devi,Principal Chief Medical Director, Southern Railway, and Dr C V N Murthy,Medical Director, Railway Hospital, Perambur, inspected all the booths and ensured proper conduct of the program.
Pediatricians Dr Nivedita Mitra, Dr Senthilkumar and Dr G Kavita visited all the booths in 3 phases. Dr J Chitra Asst Chief Health Director, Health & Family Welfare, Railway Hospital, Perambur, and Mrs Asha Hemrom Extension Educator/ Health and family welfare /RH/PER coordinated and organised this program.A total number of 488 children under the age of 5 years were given oral polio vaccine of which 311 were non Railway beneficiaries,177 were railway beneficiaries in Chennai Perambur Area.
